Knoq.com Site Design
Knoq.com Site Design
Help neighbors connect and realize their collective power by providing an online service that organizes household needs to get high quality services for less time, money and hassle.
Overview
Knoq.com is a website that provide social networking for households and the neighborhoods they belong to. I was brought on to the Knoq team to help design the beta website with the already established branding. There was a general idea of a direction the stakeholders wanted to go in and they had rough wireframes of a layout. I took these tools and began to explore design treatments and build out UI elements that I would then hand off to the developer to implement the designs.
Results
By refining and building out the UI and branding of knoq.com the overarching core values of the company were more evident to users creating a much more inviting and approachable experience. With this in place Knoq was able expand from focusing on specifically the Queen Anne neighborhood in Seattle, to expanding across the city and the whole Puget Sound area.
Role
UI & Visual design, Branding
With the beta site up and running we worked with UX designers to create wireframes and do user testing of how knoq.com 1.0 site will be structured and built out. I utilized these wireframes as the basis for building out the UI elements and visual treatment for the site.
I began researching different approaches to the site design and gathered screenshots for competitive analysis. I put this all together in a short presentation to help the stakeholders narrow down the direction they wanted their site to go.
With a decision made it was time to set out building out comps for the newly designed website. I began with exploring the landing page ideas that included different amounts of interactivity for users.
I then set out designing the subsequent pages throughout the site based on the wireframes and user testing. The final design keeps in mind the company values and creates an enjoyable and pleasant experience where neighbors can easily connect and utilize their collective power for the benefit of everybody involved. The dashboard is a modular design that allows the user to customize it to fit their specific needs as well as keep them updated with what's going on in their neighborhood.
To help households get access to resources not available in their neighborhood, knoq.com has a paralleling site specifically design for local businesses and vendors. Similar in style, but catering to more business needs, this site allow merchants to sign up with Knoq and provide deals on their goods and services to specific neighborhoods they serve.
